On August 27, 2008, eight EC135 P2i helicopters were ordered by the Bavarian Ministry of Interior. These aircraft will be delivered between September 2009 and April 2010. The Bavarian Police Air Support Unit will operate these helicopters, which will be qualified for instrument flight rules (IFR). The aircraft will also have special mission systems and glass cockpits, and be certified for missions using night vision goggles. The signed agreement also contains a letter of intent outlining an agreement for a power-by-the-hour contract with a minimum duration of ten years.
