During the event held to celebrate Eurocopter de
Mexico’s 25th anniversary, the Mexican Secretary of
the Economy, Eduardo Sojo, confirmed that the aeronautical
sector will inject considerable investments in
Mexico. A special agreement now allows aeronautical
companies to make imports without paying customs
duties, and this has made the country very attractive
to investors.
The helicopter market in Mexico and Central America
is currently booming, both in the public sector (thanks
to security-related investments) and the private
domain. Mexico City alone has no less than 50 heliports.
EMSA is also experiencing growing demand
from the energy sector, where the helicopter is used
intensively, particularly for oil and gas exploration.
In the public sector, the helicopter is mainly used
to transport important figures and carry medicine, and
to perform public safety, emergency medical services,
and search and rescue missions. Overall, it is estimated
that the Mexican helicopter market has grown
by 10% in a year.
Eurocopter has created a strategy to increase its business
in Mexico and Central America and to facilitate
the growth of the company’s current operations and,
for example, EMSA has signed agreements with
several schools(1).
At the celebration on 28 January, Philippe Harache,
Eurocopter Executive Vice-President, emphasised
EMSA’s importance to the Group: “Of the 17 Eurocopter
subsidiaries throughout the world, Eurocopter
de Mexico is ranked fifth in terms of turnover (100 million
dollars in 2007) and the company employs 130
people.” |
