Simulators of the future

Following recent investment in new simulators, Helisim is now preparing to receive a multi-cabin FTD in 2007, an EC225/EC725 FFS in 2008 and an NH90 TTH version FFS/FMS in 2009.

On April 10, 2007, the shareholders approved a Helisim proposal to invest in a new Full Flight Simulator/Full Mission Simulator (FFS/FMS) for the NH90 TTH version. Scheduled to enter into service in June 2009, the new facility will be used to train crews, mainly for the export sale NH90s assembled in Marignane. With over 450 helicopters sold, Helisim plans to satisfy strong demand from Eurocopter customers and NH Industries by making available an annual capacity of 5,000 training hours on the NH90 TTH FFS/FMS in Marignane.

Similarly, Helisim will soon be ready to provide training on the EC225/EC725 level D cabin, scheduled for startup in September 2008 and level D qualification later the same year. When the multi-cabin Flight Training Device (FTD) motion platform is installed in October 2007, Helisim will additionally be able to allocate the unoccupied FFS cabins in the Level 3 FTD for IFR and Multi Crew Cooperation (MCC).

The new simulation facilities will almost double the Helisim training capacity. Volume is set to rocket to 12,000 hours in 2008 following the arrival of the EC225/EC725 simulator and the FTD motion platform. The new NH90 FFS is expected to step up this volume to around 15,000 hours in 2009, with a potential to reach 18,000 hours per year in subsequent years, satisfying annual ongoing training requirements for over 3,500 pilots. These state-of-the-art simulators teamed with top quality service are geared towards ongoing customer training to improve flight and mission safety.

EC135 FLIGHT SIMULATOR

Flight training systems for the EC135, including sixaxis Full Flight Simulators, are to be installed at Eurocopter sites in Donauwörth, Germany and Dallas, US, during the last quarter of 2007. The new equipment will provide a realistic mission environment for Eurocopter customers, improve safety and emergency management, and allow training to take place regardless of weather conditions and aircraft availability. The simulators will be certified for training in March 2008 in compliance with JAR-STD2H level 3 and FAA-Part 60 FTD level 6 requirements.
