The young Chilean company, Ecocopter, is expanding fast and,
in May 2007, a new AS350 B3 Ecureuil will be added to a fleet
that already consists of two AS350 B3s and an EC130 B4.
Interview with Eduardo Ergas, President of Ecocopter
“I love science and scientists. These days, we often seem to put stars of stage and screen on a pedestal, but, where would we currently be without science?
I chose the paint schemes for my helicopters to honor science, with designs based on mathematics, DNA or the solar system.
For the fourth aircraft, we have chosen a special paint scheme, but, that’s still a secret…”
The Ecureuils perform multiple missions: tourist flights, mining prospecting in the high mountains, power line prospection (on the border between Chile and Argentina – at very high altitudes), and heliskiing.
“We really offer our customers – who are mainly tourists – an exceptional service.
We can show them waterfalls, glaciers, hot water springs, and stunning landscapes, and all this is rounded off with a delicious meal prepared by our pilots.
Our pilots learnt to cook before they even started to fly! We have had some great moments with our helicopters, like when we found an Inca mummy!
We are also very proud to have climbed to altitudes never before reached in the Andes.
We could never have accomplished all these missions without a very reliable and safe helicopter like the AS350 B3 Ecureuil.
And the EC130 is powerful and very well designed, with a spacious cabin offering beautiful views.
In the future, we want to expand even further in Chile and Argentina.”
