The first three NH90s in the TTH version were delivered to the German Army in Donauwörth
on 13 December 2006. An official ceremony was held to celebrate this long-awaited event.
On 28 March 2007, Eurocopter officially inaugurated its new plant in Albacete, Spain, in the south east of the Iberian Peninsula. Almost 850 people attended the ceremony, including the Eurocopter President, Lutz Bertling; the President of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, José María Barreda; leading political figures; representatives of the three armed services; plus journalists and customers.
The new site, which has been operational since the start of this year, currently has a workforce of more than 120 people, but this figure should exceed 700 by 2010 to ensure the plant meets its operational targets.
“Thanks to Albacete, the totality of the helicopter industrial cycle can be carried out in Spain.
In fact, in addition to manufacturing, we will also perform maintenance, retrofit, and development activities, along with the related services,” explains François Guisolphe, the Managing Director of Eurocopter in Spain.
In concrete terms, this site will produce tail booms in composite materials for the EC135 and Tiger, and the NH90 nose section.
The plant currently houses the assembly line for the EC135s intended for the Spanish market, and will begin to assemble the HAD(1) version of the Tiger from 2008 for the Spanish Ministry of Defense.
From 2010, Albacete will also produce all of the NH90s in TTH(2) version that were ordered for the Spanish Armed Forces at the end of last year.
