The only helicopter operator based in the Balearics has purchased nine Ecureuil aircraft
in barely three years. The last helicopter, an AS355 N, was delivered in July. Rotor Journal
met up with José Teno, CEO of Sky Helicópteros.
What activities does Sky Helicópteros perform?
José Teno: Based in Son Bonet, in the province of Majorca, Sky Helicópteros performs many missions, including tourist flights, filming, high mountain work, transporting loads, and fire fighting. We also transport passengers for sporting events and perform ‘island hopping’. Our customers include public institutions, private companies, and other helicopter operators on the Spanish mainland.
How would you sum up your experience with the Ecureuil range?
J. T.: We have the biggest AS350 B3 Ecureuil fleet in Spain with eight aircraft. However, the average age of the helicopters in our fleet is only two years. We are very satisfied with the Ecureuils, which are powerful aircraft that are very easy to maintain and we mainly use to transport loads and fight fires. Last July, we received an AS355 N Ecureuil, which we plan to use for filming and transporting passengers.
What role has Eurocopter played in Spain in the development of your activity?
J. T.: We particularly appreciate the fact that our pilots and technicians were able to undergo the required training at Cuatro Vientos as this was more economical for us. Our relationship with Eurocopter España is excellent. Its teams bend over backwards to find a solution to the problems that we encounter in our daily activities.
How is Sky Helicópteros shaping itself up for the future?
J. T.: We have taken delivery of four new aircraft this year and we intend to constantly renew our fleet. We know that it is impossible to predict changes in the market but, at Sky Helicópteros, we have resolved to adapt ourselves to every situation. Our size means we can be flexible, adapt ourselves easily to the requirements of the sector, and make the most of the growth in the helicopter market. This allows us to develop by seizing the opportunities that arise.
