Expansion of Activities to Include the Dauphin Family

Industrial facilities for the maintenance and overhaul/repair of Dauphin family helicopters are now operational within Eurocopter Romania, Eurocopter's Romanian subsidiary.

On 27 July 2006, Eurocopter Romania delivered the first of three AS365N Dauphins, which had been entirely rebuilt in Brasov in VIP version for the Romanian government, which will use them for the transport of its representatives. The other two aircraft will be delivered during the last quarter of 2006. This first delivery marks the start of maintenance and overhaul/repair activities for Dauphins within Eurocopter Romania, which has specialized, until now, in the Puma and Alouette.

"One of the greatest challenges of this operation was to rebuild the aircraft completely within a very short lead time (7 months for the first helicopter) with teams carrying out this work for the first time," pointed out Jean-Louis Mascle, the Managing Director of the subsidiary since its creation in 2002. "For the VIP layout, we were able to find the necessary technical solutions and local subcontractors to complete the project and take full advantage of being a Eurocopter subsidiary. We also relied heavily on our parent company for the procurement of spare parts and the overhaul/repair of dynamic assemblies and equipment."

In order to offer their customers these new services devoted to the Dauphin family, Eurocopter Romania made the necessary investments both in equipment and in personnel. This included training at Marignane, in particular, for two engineers (airframe and engine) and two electricians (avionics) who formed the core of the team in charge of the program. The Planning, Production, Technical, Design Office and Quality departments also made a significant contribution to the success of the project.

The contract signed in November 2005 by Eurocopter Romania and the Romanian government forms part of a larger program designed to provide service in the long term (periodic overhauls) to meet customer requirements and prevent any grounding of aircraft.
