Confirmed Success

The EC225 is establishing itself in Asia and is progressively becoming the reference in the rapidly expanding oil sector.

Originally designed to perform SAR (Search and Rescue) missions, and employed by the French Air Force in its military version for Combat SAR missions, the EC225 also has what it takes to satisfy the oil sector. With its ultramodern autopilot, dual hoist, and sophisticated navigation system (radar and FLIR), this aircraft has proved to be perfect for SAR work. However, it also has many other strings to its bow, which have won over the big names in the oil sector: a long range, an extensive personnel transport capability (up to 19 passengers), and low noise and vibration levels. A number of contracts have recently been signed for this latest addition to the Super Puma range.

Japanese Coast Guard
On 5 December 2005, the EC225 pulled off a sweet victory by beating the Sikorsky S-92 and winning a contract to provide the Japanese Coast Guard with two helicopters. “The Japanese Coast Guard decided to switch from the AS332 L1 Super Pumas, which they have been operating for more than 15 years, to the EC225, whose operational performances are clearly higher,” explains Bernard Fujarski, the EC225 Program Manager. “Their EC225s, which will be used for SAR and coastal surveillance missions, will be delivered in September 2007.”

Sonair - Angola
In December 2005, the Angolan operator Sonair ordered two EC225s for oil missions off the coast of Luanda, and this order has just been enhanced by the purchase of two extra EC225s. “Sonair is already operating AS332 L2 Super Pumas and its choice in favor of the EC225 was a logical one,” emphasizes Mr. Fujarski. “For a similar operating cost, this more modern helicopter offers an extended range and improved comfort. Furthermore, the switch from one aircraft to another is particularly straightforward because almost 70% of the tools can be used on both helicopters.” The first two EC225s will be delivered in July and November 2007. Over time, eight AS332 L2 Super Pumas/EC 225s will be used in Angola for oil exploration and production.

Chinese Ministry of Communication (MOC)
On 6 February 2006, a contract for the supply of two EC225s was signed by the Chinese Ministry of Communication, which will use these aircraft to perform SAR duties. Following their delivery, scheduled for December 2007, these helicopters will also contribute to the safety and assistance provisions implemented for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Citic Offshore Helicopter Co. Ltd (COHC)
On 6 June 2006, this Chinese company ordered two EC225s, which will be based in Shenzhen (near Hong Kong). “COHC is already a Super Puma customer and was bowled over by the endurance of the EC225,” continues Bernard Fujarski. “The EC225 will be able to reach the company’s oil platforms more than 200 Nm offshore without need for refueling. In addition, COHC has opted for a 600-liter external fuel tank which increases the helicopter’s endurance by approximately one hour. These aircraft will be delivered in early 2008.”

Bond Offshore Helicopters
On 19 july 2006, the British operator Bond Offshore Helicopters ordered two EC225s. These aircraft will be delivered in mid-2006. They will be operated for the oil industry passenger transport and SAR missions in the North Sea.
