Fallen in Love with the EC135

Omni Táxi Aéreo is a subsidiary of the Portuguese group Omni Aviaçao e Technologia. The group supplies the aircraft and Omni Taxi Aéreo operates them for Petrobras in Brazil.

Based at Jacarepaguá airport, Rio de Janeiro, this operator currently has two EC135s and two AS365 N3 Dauphins will join them in 2007 (see over). Omni Táxi Aéreo was the first company to introduce the EC135 on the Brazilian oil market. Because of their availability, the two EC135s are richly appreciated by Petrobras, OMNI’s end customer. The aircraft transport passengers to oil platforms 20 km off the northeast coast of Brazil and, since their entry into service in August 2005, the two EC135s have put approximately 1,350 flight hours on the clock.

The helicopters perform ten rotations per day, two hundred days a year, and transport approximately 10,000 passengers every year. The EC135 has therefore made a very successful entry onto the Brazilian oil scene. “We’ve fallen in love with this helicopter,” confesses the CEO of OMNI, the Petrobras spokesman for the EC135. Passengers also appreciate the spacious cabin, comfort, and the noise and vibration levels, which are well below those of competitor aircraft.

New contract

In March 2006, Omni signed a new contract with Eurocopter for two AS365 N3 Dauphins in answer to an urgent need of the Brazilian oil operator Petrobras. The rising price of the barrel of oil and the new oil extraction technologies available have encouraged the oil companies to augment their production capacity, even if they have to search for the 'black gold' farther out to sea and in deeper water.
