The press conference to mark the inauguration of Eurocopter Vostok in Moscow on 6 April 2006.

The Russian subsidiary Eurocopter Vostok has been created to offer customers a comprehensive and dynamic offer.

Eleven years ago, Eurocopter became the first helicopter manufacturer to create a representative office in Russia; now, the Group has become the first manufacturer to set up a Russian subsidiary. Present on the scene, Eurocopter has been able to experience the major changes in the requirements of the local market, and has decided to extend its activities in the region. On 6 April 2006, the inauguration of Eurocopter Vostok in Moscow heralded the launch of numerous projects whose goal is to respond more closely to the needs of customers in Russia and the countries of the CIS in general.

Distribution of New Aircraft
Henceforth, the Russian subsidiary will distribute new aircraft. The commercial coverage of the territory will be subsequently extended and three additional sales offices will be created by next year. This enlargement will be accompanied by a massive certification campaign by Russia’s MAK Authority so that customers can benefit from the entire range of Eurocopter helicopters. By the end of 2005, the MAK certification in Russia had already been awarded for the EC145 and numerous other requests had been submitted. At the end of 2006, the EC120 B Colibri, EC130 B4, AS350 B3 Ecureuil, AS365 N3 Dauphin, and EC155 B1 should all follow. “We have noticed a growing interest and demand for Eurocopter aircraft; we have therefore decided to invest and certify every one of our products,” explains the Eurocopter Vostok President, Jérôme Noulens.

A Network of Maintenance Centers
Convinced that commercial development must be backed by an effective structure for aircraft maintenance and repair, Eurocopter Vostok is going to deploy a vast network of maintenance centers all over Russia. Working with major operators, Eurocopter should open highly effective maintenance and repair centers in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Tumen by the end of this year, and Eurocopter Vostok will supply these centers with spare parts from its own inventory. This reorganization will reduce delivery times. In every sector, Eurocopter is therefore equipping itself with all the resources it needs to keep up with the major changes on the Russian market.

A market on the move

Jerome Noulens, who is President of Eurocopter Vostok, comments: “Today our main customers are large companies and government agencies but we’re pinning our faith on the needs of the Russian commercial operators, who have to modernize their aging fleets, particularly the operators in the oil sector.” At present 36 helicopters from Eurocopter are flying in Russia, which makes the company the leading Western helicopter manufacturer in the country. The Ministry for Extraordinary Situations is one of the company's main customers (3 BO105s and 1 BK117). In the corporate sector, the EC120B Colibri and the Ecureuil family (EC130B4, AS355) are the most popular models with Russian customers.
