Ludwig Bölkow worked with Messerschmitt until 1948 when he created his own design office, and in 1956 founded his aeronautical company which merged in 1968 with Messerschmitt (founded in 1923). The company developed the famous helicopter hingeless rotorhead without lead-lag hinges and blades made of composite material.
1953: Bo102-103 In 1953, the German company Flettner, who at the time employed
a certain Mr. Bölkow, started developing a flight trainer, known as the Bo 102 Helitrainer.
1956: Bo46 Beginning in 1956, Bölkow had started work on a high-speed helicopter
project with the development of a bearingless main rotor.
1967: Bo105 The Bo105 was the very first light twin-engine helicopter
in the world to enter commercial service.
